Okay so it's about a kidnapping on/during and airline flight. But it has Jodi Foster it should be cool right? It almost turns into a psychological thriller, that would of been ok. But then it ends up being a Steven Seagal flick and that's never good.

Sci Fi's Earthsea

Terribly disappointing adaptation of Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea trilogy This revealed to me what a fantastic job Peter Jackson did in adapting Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy to the big screen. He was able to adhere very closely to the books within the limitations of the film media.

On the other hand, the Sci Fi adaptation of my much beloved Earthsea trilogy is a massacre. They might as well have named it something else, using different characters names and so forth. They cut out the third book in the trilogy, and mashed together the first two into something that was totally unfaithful to the original work — it's a different story. The loss is inevitable. That this is an adapation of a piece of fiction is a fiction. This is an entirely different story. It pales in comparison to Le Guin's trilogy. It's horrible.

Even the acting was terrible. Again, compare it to the film adaption of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The cast, even the animated characters (like Gollum), was fantastic. I believe Tolkien would have approved. The acting in Earthsea seems flat and uninspired, like it was forced.

Ursula Le Guin is a great writer. She deserved much better. Here is a link to provide information on Ursule Le Guin, which hopefully will inspire you to read her books, particularly the Earthsea ones, and rinse out the bad aftertaste of the Sci Fi fiction of an adaptation.

Snakes On A Plane

I'm not sure what all the hype was about. I caught the initial talk about this movie before it was released and just kept it on my Netflix list without bothering to look at any reviews. I never wondered why it didn't last very long at the theaters - now I know why!

For some reason, I have never been able to just walk out on a movie. I feel the need to see the whole thing or at least find out how things turn out. Anyway, it was better in 1.5x speed and I could understand everything that was going on. This was stupid premise meets crappy acting (even by Samuel L. Jackson) to make one predictable flop of a movie. Of course if you like stupid campy thrillers like Halloween, you may enjoy it!

Eragon

We went to see Eragon last night.... My husband, step-daughter and I had read the book and really enjoyed it but were wondering how they were going to manage to fit all of the story into just one 1-1/2 hour movie. Well, they didn't!! They completely changed the story, the characters, the plot. I don't know how they can even say that it was based on the book! Well, the dragon was still blue and named Saphira... My other step-daughter hadn't read the book and still thought the movie sucked. The dialogue was excessive and bad , there were numerous inconsistencies in the cinematography, bad acting (Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Irons, and John Malcovich - Oh why did you accept parts in this horrible movie?). We thought that maybe they were trying to appeal to a much younger audience (7-11) but even still it could have been much more thought out. Maybe focused more on developing the characters that were so rich in the book. I should have read the NY Times review like I normally do before seeing a movie. Not that they have the last word on anything, but it would have at least given me a sense of what to expect.

Anyway, complete disappointment and waste of $48 dollars!! Don't bother!

Born into Brothels

A documentary about the children of Prostitutes in India. Many people have raved about this, but not me. I really wanted to loke it, but it breaks the first rule of making a "documentary". The filmmaker interferes with the subject. The film isn't about the childrens lives. It starts out showing you the lives of the children, but becomes the story of the filmmaker trying to rescue them.

So all the film does is introduce us to the children. Show us some colorful montages, then abuptly conclude by telling us what happened with subtitles.

Weak.

SYNOPSIS:

Teenage Sherri, a new arrival to Lake Charles, Louisiana, gets a rude awakening as the locals give her a slice of real Southern hospitality, small town style. Included in her Lake Charles initiation are some hard lessons on friendship, family, and bigotry—not the kind made of ephemeral remarks and incidental ostracizing of outsiders, but real and vicious institutional racism, the kind that ends in murder.

Sherri arrives as the locals prepare for the funeral of Mary, the town’s Contraband Days Celebration Queen. With her death begins the shattering of the perfect picture of southern hospitality that she represents. Grieving is glossed over in favor of panic about the town’s quickly evaporating marijuana supply. What’s really died is the smiling welcoming south, and its warmth and hospitality are quickly replaced by a rapid growth of weeds.

Then the ensemble cast of Unfiltered gradually unwinds into a hard picture of gritty southern life as facades of tolerance gradually peel / crumble away. What’s revealed is the stuff that’s usually swept under the carpet.

I watched this movie at my thirteenth birthday party. I am a huge fans of all things HORROR and was grossly let down by this cheesy film. It was a bad B movie without any of the good nudity. Anyone else ever seen this? Thought it was fitting seeing as this Friday is the 13th.

Even as a chick flick it was disspointing.

Any film that can take Kirsten Dunst and Maggie Gyllenhaal and still manage to produce a turkey is doing something seriously wrong.

I have little time for Julia Roberts, but she certainly wasnt putting any great effort into this. The care factor just wasnt there either for her or her precious little charges.

Thats what I get for visiting Rotten Tomatoes AFTER watching a film.

Hey, so I thought I'd start a thread about what movies out there were so BAD that they were great/entertaining/whatever, you loved them for their quirks/ridiculousness/etc.

Has anyone ever seen 'I, Madman'? This movie was just so bad, I couldn't help but love it. Start with a semi-interesting concept about books written by a psycho doctor that when read, start actually coming true in this girl's life. Throw in an over-the-top horror plot (doctor wants a girl who rejected him so badly that he cuts off all the features on his face and starts killing other people to sew their 'better' features onto his own), some campy dialog, and some bad special effects at the end, and wow!

Showgirls

I have to say, I love Showgirls.
It's SO bad, it wraps around and is awesome.
The motivations of the characters are so unreal, it's like watching space aliens, trying to pretend to be human. I love inviting friends over that haven't seen it, and watching their faces go from laughs to offended to almost horror and finally giving up in confusion and bewilderment.
And even though you KNOW this is a bad film, for days afterward, the brain wanders back to it, desperately trying to find some understanding in the motivations of the characters... it's like art, almost.
Accidental and hilarious.
